Melanie Oliver

PhD (C), MA (Dist), DipPsych, Dip DFT (Dist)

CONSULTANT PSYCHOTHERAPIST

Wildology Founder and Clinical Director

Melanie is a Consultant Psychotherapist, educator, speaker, and conservationist whose work sits at the intersection of clinical excellence, human development, and the restorative intelligence of the natural world.

Born in South Africa, she spent her early years living on a private game reserve in the Sabi Sands region of Mpumalanga, bordering the Kruger National Park, as well as in Zimbabwe and the United Kingdom. This early immersion in wilderness, alongside a life lived across cultures, shaped a deep understanding of identity, disconnection, and the fundamental human need for belonging - to self, to others, and to place. Melanie brings a global perspective and cultural sensitivity to her work, particularly with individuals whose lives are complex, high-profile, or internationally mobile.

Melanie works across the lifespan with adults and adolescents, as well as with couples, families, individuals, and groups. She specialises in the assessment and treatment of complex, long-standing difficulties, including trauma-related presentations, affect dysregulation, relational disturbances, and co-occurring conditions. Her approach integrates depth psychotherapy with contemporary neuroscientific frameworks, supporting clients in developing greater emotional regulation, self-awareness, and adaptive functioning.

Her career spans the NHS, the voluntary sector, and internationally recognised private institutions. She worked for over six years at The Priory Hospital in London, served as a case manager and therapist at the Küsnacht Practice in Switzerland, and holds a private practice on London’s Harley Street. Alongside her clinical work, she leads workshops and delivers speaking engagements internationally, often exploring the relationship between modern psychological distress and the loss of connection to the natural world.

Melanie trained as a depth psychotherapist at CCPE in London and holds a master’s degree in Psychotherapy (Distinction) from the University of Northampton. She has undertaken advanced specialist training at The Meadows in Arizona and the Anna Freud Centre in London and is currently pursuing a PhD. She is fully accredited with UKCP (United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy).

As a senior practitioner, Melanie brings advanced expertise in managing complex clinical presentations, leading multidisciplinary teams, and developing integrative therapeutic programmes. Her work is grounded in the understanding that healing is not only a psychological process, but an embodied and relational one - best supported in environments that restore a sense of safety, presence, and connection. She views wilderness not as a backdrop to treatment, but a guide, and active co-therapist - inviting reflection, regulating the nervous system, and facilitating a return to a more integrated and authentic way of being.

At the heart of her work is the recognition that modern life, for all its advancement, has distanced us from the conditions that allow us to thrive. In response, Melanie’s approach brings together clinical depth and the restorative intelligence of the natural world - a place that reflects, regulates, reconnects; asks us to slow down, to listen, and to remember. Her work is an invitation back into relationship - with self, with others, and with the living world.

Not as an idea, but as a lived experience.

Not as escape, but as return.
